Spirit Whispers

Do you pray?
Meditate?
Are there symbols that help?
What symbols help you in your prayer?
Are you asking when you pray?
Are you worshiping?

Sometimes I find when things are going well,
I forget to pray or meditate or even write in my journal.
Then when difficult times come along
I turn to prayer and meditation.

Do you sometimes do that too?
I don't think I am the only one here doing this.

I am a visual person, so I think maybe I need a visual
sign to remind me to take time in quietness to say a prayer,
meditate, or write.  I am a better listener when I take time
to pray and meditate.

I will be thinking about your questions today. I don't think I use symbols to help me in prayer --- but I'm not sure. Sometimes we use things in life so naturally that we don't even realize we are doing it.

Yes, I do pray. And I probably pray harder when I am worried about my children. I think most of us use visual symbols of some sort... a cross hanging on our wall, an advent wreath sitting on a table, etc...

I think this is why people need rituals when it comes to religion, whatever theirs may be. visual, counting beads, whatever.

i keep around my house religious icons, gods, etc., from different religions - milagros, crosses, rosaries, a broken buddha, a ganesh draped with beads, etc., etc. and they are reminders, but like La Tea Dah, it is the everyday things that bring the prayers. the feathers and flowers. i say a gratitude prayer/meditation for my aging body quite a bit and thank it.

journaling never helps me re: this. my journaling is usually nothing but complaining. lol!

this is a terrific post. i, too, will be thinking about it for a while.

Yes to most of these questions! Back in the 70s I read a little book (more like a pamphlet) "Practicing the Presence of Prayer" (I think that was the name) It was about being in constant communion with the Lord. I try to do this, but of course life gets in there with distractions. I think this is why we have problems - to keep us on our knees, to remind us Who is in control. Sometimes I think I'm always asking more than praising and being grateful. I want to be at the point where I turn that around!

I think we all seem to forget to pray when things are going good. And thank God He's there to listen when they aren't. I find my best place to meditate and pray is on the swing in my yard. My father and mother used to sit there every night, overlooking their gardens. I feel his presence and feel closer to God in that wooden swing.

Generally speaking, I would say I pray more often when things are bad. I try to say a little prayer for my friends and family each night as my head hits the pillow. When I'm away, it happens every night....sort of calms the worry.

Boy, I knew I had to visit people today, I missed them so. And I'm seeing messages everywhere. Yes, I pray. Meditate -- sometimes (not officially, usually driving or just hanging) and when I pray, I'm often being grateful. And yes, I'm a bad journaler in good times!

That's a good question. I find, I keep a open conversation with God. I prayer or think on things all throughout my day. Things that I am blessed and grateful for and needs of family, friends I that need divine help or understanding. This last year has been a test of faith for our family. But, I have learn everyday we still go about life. It's best to enjoy because everyday is a gift. Be Bless & pass it along.

Sweet post.
I don't visualize while I'm praying....I pray as if talking to a person right in the room with me...because His Spirit is there. I prefer to pray out loud.

I pray in Jesus Name because there is no name higher than HIs. Because Jesus is my personal savior, I can go boldly into the throne room of God when praying. I don't have to use another person to ask permission to pray. God hears my prayers because Jesus is my savior.

I don't have a prayer journal...wish I had kept one over the years. Would be wonderful to read over and remember the answered prayer.

As a born again Christian I have been filled with God's Spirit and as time has passed I know that I am a child of the most high God...none higher!

God bless and may you have a terrific life!

I'm like you in that I sometimes don't think to pray as much during the good times as I do when there are difficulties. This may seem silly, but sometimes I connect certain "symbols" with praying for certain friends. For instance, when I see a UPS truck I'll remember to pray for my brother-in-law who works there. A friend used to say she prays over the news as she reads it, which I think is certainly a good idea!
